An intimate visual poem on form and substance. A personal recording of a rediscovered familiarity.
Uncertain Homes questions the rhetoric of the home as a fixed place. Often, space seems almost immobile, arrhythmic. Its meaning stabilizes with habit. Our signifier suggests thoughts and images. We are not talking about emptiness, but more precisely about what surrounds it, or lies within. A project born from the inability to define a single place as home and from the perception of one’s body as trapped in multiple stages of the passage of time.
“Why not embrace dispersion? Instead of living in a single place, vainly trying to focus, couldn’t one have, scattered throughout Paris, five or six rooms?” (Georges Perec, Species of spaces and other pieces).
The process of image manipulation builds a visual archive of an unprecedented everyday life. It explores the relationship between vision, representation, and perception through fragments of a story perhaps destined to disappear, characterized by interpersonal relationships, journeys, and waiting. It analyzes the influence that events have on the perception of reality, showing how the world takes on new meanings based on experience. A layering of reality based on the practice of observation and wonder, creating a mosaic of projections that reveals as much about the psyche of homes as about the buildings and cities themselves. Places, family, people, sensations.
Images brought to life through the scanning of an overload of photographs, fused into a single digital representation and flattened into a new unified vision, narrating lived spaces, suspended times, certainties, and contradictions.
Absences of references that outline traces of a non-place that I like to consider home.
